Surfing is a water sport in which the surfer rides a surfboard on waves that carry the surfer towards the shore. Most surfers surf waves on the ocean tides. Surfing is a sport and is becoming more popular every day. The most common techniques used for surfing are drop in positioning, the pop-up, and positioning on the wave. Drop in positioning is knowing how to predict a set of waves and when they will break. The pop-up is the surfer’s ability to pop-up as soon as the wave starts pushing the board forward. Is this new to you? Catch up here Positioning is being able to properly position yourself on the wave to prevent wipe out.

There are different types of surfing such as body surfing, stand-up paddle surfing, tow-in surfing, and windsurfing. The basic equipment needed for surfing include surfboards, swimming attire, and goggles if needed. Other surfing equipment that can be used include water skis, wakeboards, and body boards. Surfing is best done in places that are conducive for the sport such as Maverick’s in California and the Pipeline in Hawaii. Some of the most famous surfing locations internationally are Bells Beach in Victoria, Australia, La Libertad in El Savador, and Arugam Bay in Sri Lanka.

Surfing is about as varied a sport as any but just like a clear coverage map, the best spots are, well, everywhere. Here are a few of our picks for the best in-country places to learn and improve your surfing technique:
Maui, HI: If you’ve got the funds and the time, make a pilgrimage to Maui to really learn the ropes. It’s the holy ground among the surfing elite and you can get a quality lesson and board rental for about the price of lunch.
San Diedo, CA: If you can’t make it all the way to Hawaii, stop over in San Diego to hit the waves. You won’t find any 10-footers but that’s okay, you only need the rolling, consistent surf of Cali to improve your form and really learn the basics.
Virginia Beach, VA: We picked this spot because not all surfers live on the west coast, right? VA Beach is an affordable and centrally-located vacation spot and it has got a surprisingly large surfing community. You can rent surf boards, get lessons and have some real alone time with the waves here.

No matter where you live in the country, if there is a local beach in your area, there is the chance of catching great waves at certain times of the day. Just because the beach you visit, doesn’t carry a big name where the professionals go to surf, does not mean that you will not be able to catch great waves at that beach.

The best time of day to get the highest tide is very early in the morning (about five or six AM), or right before dusk. The temperature in the ocean mixed with the atmosphere around it, offers the best surfing conditions, and the best opportunity to catch great waves. Any beach in the country, no matter what the name of the beach, offers the same surfing conditions.

The weather outside, the temperature of the ocean, and when the high tide hits are the factors that will give you the best waves. Therefore, no matter where you live, and no matter which beach you visit, you can find great waves, if the conditions are right. Make sure to get out early enough, and find the highest waters of the ocean, and you can find great waves at your local hometown beach.

The thrill of surfing is catching the best wave, and knowing how to properly ride it. For the pros, this has become routine and they know the best beaches, and the best spots to catch the ultimate waves. However, if you are an amateur surfer, or just looking to get some exercise out on the beach, what is the best time of day to catch the biggest waves?

There are two times of day when the tide will be at its higest point, therefore, for the thrill and adventure seekers looking to catch the big waves, this is when you want to be out there. Either very early in the morning, or right before dusk, are the best times to catch the highest waves. These times of day are when the ocean is most likely to swell and break evenly, giving the surfer the ultimate thrill of “hanging ten.”

When going out make sure you have the proper gear, and if you are not a pro (or at least very experienced), make sure you have someone around who is skilled enough to help you out in the event something goes wrong. Catching the best waves is really dependant on getting out when the tide is right.

The sport of surfing today is more than a worldwide pastime; it has become a discipline and a lifestyle for thousands with international competitions and the crowning of champions. From the shores of California to the coast of Australia, the north shore of Hawaii to the cape of Africa, surfers search for the biggest, longest, steepest and most perfect in a continual to search for the ultimate wave.

Winter storms across the northern Pacific serve up some of the largest most infamous waves on the planet on Oahu’s north shore. The wind driven surf can reach 25 feet plus and sometimes they crank up to over 50 feet in Waimea Bay.Want more? Click here/tag

The Cortes Banks is 100 miles west of San Diego and storms in the Gulf of Alaska can create waves that big wave surfers dream about. In 2001, Mike Parsons was towed into a monster that was estimated to be nearly 70 feet.

Miguel del Toro was virtually an unknown big wave surfer until he caught a 100 footer off the shores of Patagonia. The footage of his ride is scary, the ride insane and has to be what nightmares are made of and is undoubtedly, the ultimate wave.

When in the market for new surfing gear, consumers are looking for the best products on the market. Choosing the right gear can make a world of difference in the surfing ability, and can make you much more competative on the water. There are many brand names today on the market for surf wear, and gear. Such companies include: Oakley, Fox, Billabong, Hurley, Hansens, and many other brand names which are geared to draw the consumer in.

So, how do you know which is the best brand, and which companies are after you for the money? When buying surfing gear and apparel, you want to wear what the pros are wearing. Many professionals endorse certain brands of surf gear. Although they typically get a payout from these companies for wearing thier brand, the pros wouldn’t be wearing the brand to begin with if it wasn’t of high quality.

So when deciding on the right brand, look for the most popular brand which the pros are currently wearing. However, brand name isn’t everything. Check out new competitors as well, and make sure to shop around. The only way to find the best brand for you, is to try everything until you find the best fit.
